Is The Bowflex SelectTech 1090 A Good Value? Where Can You Get a Great Deal on these Adjustable Dumbbells?

When you think of exercise equipment Bowflex is one name that comes to mind.  This is probably because of the unique design that sets their equipment apart from every other exercise machines.  They use a patented power rod design that Tessema Dosho Shifferaw came up with in 1986.  Strength and cardio training are what the machines are known for. Their first sales were generated through infomercials, and they still receive the bulk of their sales in this manner.  Although most of the companies exercise equipment is either home gyms or tread climber models they also sell the Bowflex 1090 dumbbells.

This compact set of dumbbells will fit almost anywhere so even if you have a small space you can get a great workout.  The dumbbells are adjustable so you can expect them to do the work of multiple dumbbells.  The weights range from ten pounds to ninety pounds and can be added with the touch of the dial in five pound increments.

Most people use the Bowflex 1090 dumbbells for strength exercise, leg lifts and basic toning. The weights are built to be durable.  For people that wish to develop an exercise routine there is a DVD that comes with the dumbbells that show more than thirty exercises.

The dumbbell has a single handle that is part of the dial mechanism.  When the dial is turned up the weight plate is attached to the handle.  The display is easy to see so that you know just how much weight you have on the dumbbell.  When lighter weights are used it is good for basic toning or strength exercises.  Curls and raises would be part of the exercise regimen.  For more demanding training adding extra weight works well with lunges or shrugs.  The Bowflex 1090 dumbbells save you money because you don't have to purchase more dumbbells as you gain in strength.  Another plus to these dumbbells is that there is a limited two year warranty on all the parts with a five year warranty on the weight plates.

Reviews of this product have been positive in that they work great for people with small areas to exercise in.  If there are any drawbacks to the Bowflex 1090 dumbbells it is that they are a bit cumbersome to lift off the floor.  Many of the reviewers advocated purchasing the weight stand which also fits into a small space.  The handle on the 1090 dumbbells is also a little on the awkward side as they didn't make it round, but rectangular with a texture on the palm side.  Some customers fixed the issue by taping the handle.

As with all new products one size won't fit all, but there are some tips that you can garner from this review.  If the handle on the dumbbells is an issue you could use tape to make it more comfortable, and if you don't feel as though you want to spend the money on the stand find an acceptable alternative.  Sturdy boxes or crates could be a less expensive stand and save the strain on your back from picking up the dumbbells from the floor, although if you are lifting correctly you shouldn't be putting any strain on your back.
